MicroRNAs as therapeutics for heart disease
نویسنده
چکیده
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, noncoding RNA molecules that have been demonstrated to play critical roles in multiple aspects of whole body physiology by repressing downstream messenger RNA (mRNA) target transcription. With reference to the cardiovascular system, a number of miRNAs undergo deregulated expression in response to numerous stresses including ischemia, heart failure, and pulmonary hypertension, which led to the discovery of novel targets for treating these various cardiovascular diseases, including miRNA-214, miRNA-155, and miRNA-204. As our understanding of miRNA biology and the regulation of their downstream mRNA target genes improves, it should lead to the discovery of novel targets for the treatment of various types of cardiovascular disease. The role of microRNAs in cardiovascular disease
Cardiovascular disease has become the main factor of death and birth defects in the world. There are some therapeutic structures and drugs for curative and palliative therapy of the disease, but to the aim of accessing reliable therapy or to postpone onset of disease, especially for individuals with heritable coronary artery disease in their pedigree Genetic engineering technologies are making...

Heart failure is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. End stage disease often requires heart transplantation, which is hampered by donor organ shortage. Tissue engineering represents a promising alternative approach for cardiac repair. For the generation of artificial heart muscle tissue several cell types, scaffold materials and bioreactor designs are under investigation. In this revi...

MicroRNAs are short noncoding RNAs that function as negative regulators of gene expression. Posttranscriptional regulation by miRNAs is important for many aspects of development, homeostasis, and disease. Endothelial cells are key regulators of different aspects of vascular biology, including the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). Here, we review the approaches and current experimen...

MicroRNAs act as negative regulators of gene expression by inhibiting the translation or promoting the degradation of target mRNAs. Because individual microRNAs often regulate the expression of multiple target genes with related functions, modulating the expression of a single microRNA can, in principle, influence an entire gene network and thereby modify complex disease phenotypes. Recent stud...

Recent studies have suggested a potentially important role for a family of tiny regulatory RNAs, known as microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs), in the control of diverse aspects of cardiac function in health and disease. Although the field of miRNA biology is relatively new, there is emerging evidence that miRNAs may play an important role in the pathogenesis of heart failure through their ability to reg...
